Volunteer Expectations
We are looking forward to a great season with our swimming community! Swim meets require a lot of helping hands, and make any bit of work feel more like fun!
Due to the size of our swim team, we are requesting that each family complete 2 volunteer work shifts for the entirety of the summer. Upon the fulfillment of each family's volunteer obligations, the deposit check ($50) will be returned at the end of the season. Any money not returned, will be deposited into the swim team account for additional team dues.
Here is a list of the volunteer opportunities listed below.
Meet Setup: This job requires the transformation of the SCCA recreational pool into a competition pool. From blocks, to flags, to heating (Clerk of Course) area... it's a fun job! We will typically aim to complete this job in the evening prior to the meet.
Team Tent: To offer our swimmers the best swim-meet community experience, we would like to offer them some shade and also a 'team spot' to sit together. Your job will be to set up/take down the SCCA swim team tent, and a table including a large jug of water for the swimmers.
Announcer/Starter: We will need your voice to announce the current swimming event, work with the runner and the Clerk of Course to make First Call/Last Call announcements, and also start each race.
Hospitality:Selling concession items, all profited money, benefits our swim team.
Clerk of Course: The idea for Clerk of Course is to help the swimmers get organized behind their block ahead of time to help the meet run quickly and support the swimmer to know where/when/what they are swimming. Helping these swimmers into their correct heat and lane is a busy task and a great way to get to know the swimmers' names and events.
First/Last Call: Please work closely with the announcer to signal when it's time for the kids to go to the Heating Area and time to get behind the blocks by flipping the number on the first call flags.
Computer Manager: This job requires checking times between dolphin timing system and computer. At end of meet, ribbon labels are printed.
Timers: One of the best seats in the 'house'!
Official: Your role entails watching for legal/illegal strokes, wall touches, and occasionally/consistently educating kids on their miscues with a conversation about their disqualification.
Meet Take-Down: Please plan to stay after the meet to take down all swim team equipment. Better teamwork and more hands makes the job easy.
Ribbons: We will need volunteers to collect the ribbons after the meet to be delivered to opposing teams' swimmers and to also be sorted for our swimmers.
Donation of requested items: On occasion, we may ask for popsicles, snacks, or other items to be donated.
