City Meet Info
Shark Families-
This is the big one! All of our hard work over the summer culminates at the City Meet. All the teams in the league participate and the Sharks are expected to be a big contender. I encourage every swimmer who can to sign up to swim hard, cheer loud, and help SCCA make a big impact!
Here is all the information for City Meet:

City Meet Merchandise:
You can purchase City Meet Merch until tonight at Midnight. Click here and your order can be picked up at the meet.
Entry Deadline:
Swimmers can swim 3 individual events and up to two relays. We encourage swimmers to sign up for three events and coaches will review entries and may suggest alternate events if it doesn't seem like a good fit.
Entries are due in Swimtopia on Friday, July 10 at noon.
If you know your swimmer won't attend, it would really help coaches if you mark in Swimtopia that they won't be able to attend.
Entry Fees:
Each Swimmer has a flat entry fee of $5. Each individual event is $7. So, a swimmer doing three events would owe $26 ($5 flat fee + 3 x $7). The swim team will pay for all relays.
- You can pay your fees next week at practices. We will have invoices to help you know how much you owe.
- You can pay by check or cash in a marked envelope marked with City Meet Fees and swimmer/family name.
- You can pay by Venmo with a comment marked City Meet Fees and swimmer/family name.
- All fees are due by Thursday, 7/16 at the latest.
Relays:
Part of our philosophy at the Sharks is to get as many kids swimming and a part of relays as possible. We still carry that philosophy into City Meet, but also look at what will be the most competitive combinations that will benefit the overall team score. We also look harder at making sure a relay has a good chance to swim legally.
Disqualifications:
The amount of disqualifications at the City Meet are quite a bit higher than many other meets this summer. We have been working hard all summer, as have other teams, to help swimmers learn all the rules. However, sometimes disqualifications still happen. It can be hard for swimmers, parents and coaches, but is part of the sport. It happens to all swimmers at some point in their swimming journey. Please know that we are working with your kids, but will always be proud of their effort whether they get DQed or not.
(Coach Rob got disqualified his first 11 races over the course of his first 3 swim meets!)
Scoring:
Every swimmer can contribute to our team score! Below is how scoring works at this meet. We need as many sharks as we can get!
- The scoring of individual placings is as follows: 16-13-12-11-10-9-7-5-4-3-2-1
- The scoring of relay placings is as follows: 32-26-24-22-20-18-14-10-8-6-4-2
Volunteer Jobs:
We have been assigned 6 total timer shifts over the course of the meet.
- 2 Timers for Friday AM (1st Shift)
- 2 Timers for Friday PM (Distance session)
- 2 Timers for Saturday AM (2nd Shift).
You can sign up for these in Swimtopia and they count toward your volunteer points for the summer. Here are some additional details from the meet info:
Please arrive in time to set up your space and attend your meeting if you are a timer, runner, or heater/seater. We will hold only one meeting for BOTH first and second shifts at 7:35am. Second shift should be prepared to switch between events 24 and 25 on Friday and events 68 and 69 on Saturday. ALL volunteers are required to sign in at the volunteer station at the concessions stand before their shift.
Extra Sharks Merch:
Finally, we have ordered some more Shark Team Shirts for the swimmers who did not get their shirt. They should be ready before City Meet and will hand them out at practices. We also ordered several more shirts in adult sizes and some Sharks hats. Those will be available for purchase once they come in as well.
Thanks for your support and putting up with my lengthy emails. Swim meets take a lot of communication, coordination and volunteers. We appreciate all of our families helping to make this summer a great experience. Let's Go Sharks!
