Practice and Meet Sign Up Information

Hello Swim team families!

We had an excellent first practice this morning and loved seeing our team's new and returning faces!

Sign up for Meet Entries by Wednesday at noon. Our first swim meet is at home this Saturday! You can sign swimmers up for events at https://scca-sharks.swimtopia.com/swim_meets. Swimmers can enter up to three individual events and indicate if they want to be on a relay. If swimmers don't sign up, we assume they are not attending the meet and won't be entered. If you have a new swimmer and are unsure what to sign up for, try the 25 or 50 Freestyle. If you need help or have questions, some board members and experienced parents will be on deck the next few days who can help you out. You can also sign up for your volunteering roles with your events on Swimtopia.

Please take a look at the information about volunteering from Katie below.

Believe it or not, our first home meet of the season is on Saturday, June 8. This will be a great time to get our 'feet wet' and experience all that is required to help a meet run smoothly, and I can't think of a better way for us to become better acquainted with one another! Considering our team size, we request that each family work 3 shifts for the summer to receive a refund for your $50 deposit at the end of the season. A 'shift' is indicated on Swimtopia as a volunteer item worth "1 point" each. If for any reason you are anticipating having difficulty volunteering for 3 shifts, please contact me so that we can work to find a way for you to be involved.
If at any time during the course of the season, you are able to contribute to our Wish List items, we would love your support. Please place a sticky note with "WISH LIST" on it, and deliver it to the deck during swim practice.

In an effort to help all swimmers across the league to learn the sport and prepare for City Meet, the league is proposing the following tiered DQ system. DQ’s are a normal part of the swimming experience, but we hope this system can help everyone across the league. Each week, a new theme with a set of rules will be introduced and enforced during meets. The rules build on themselves until most all rules have been covered by City Meet. At the City Meet there will be USA swimming officials and all of these rules will be enforced. Our hope is that this system will help coaches, swimmers and parents ramp up to fully legal swims!

Theme: Basics

  • No touching bottom
  • No missing walls
  • No false starts on relays

You can see all the themes here and learn more about swimming rules here.

As always please reach out if you need anything!
